By Debby Golden Connors State College REED CITY\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Morgan Cook of Reed City was recently selected as a member of the Livestock Judging Team at\u00a0Connors State College in Warner, Okla. Cook is a 2013 graduate of Nowata High School. She is the\u00a0daughter of John and Rodnie Cook. On campus, Cook is an active member of Aggie Club, Agriculture\u00a0Communicators of Tomorrow and Agriculture Ambassadors. Cook is sophomore at CSC and pursuing an\u00a0associates degree of science in animal science. After receiving her associates degree, Cook plans to further her\u00a0education at an undecided university. She was third overall in swine judging at the State Fair of Texas. Livestock Judging Team members evaluate both breeding and market animals for beef cattle,\u00a0sheep, goats, swine and horses, to determine their value relative to current industry trends. After\u00a0placing the class, the students will then defend their placing by presenting oral reasons to an official\u00a0judge. The participation in livestock judging will enhance the student\u2019s critical thinking and decision\u00a0making skills while also developing public speaking ability. Connors State has a rich tradition in livestock\u00a0judging by consistently being one of the top programs in the U.S. for the last 30 years. CSC\u2019s Livestock Judging Team travels all over the state of Oklahoma and throughout the\u00a0Midwest to practice and compete. They visit ranches, university farms and regional and national fairs\u00a0and livestock shows. Through their travels, team members will get to meet and work out with many of\u00a0today\u2019s elite animal operations and meet some of the top producers in the nation. In the coming weeks,\u00a0the team will travel to the Flint Hills Classic in Kan., Tulsa State Fair, the State Fair of Texas, the\u00a0American Royal in Kansas City and the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville,\u00a0Ky. In the spring semester, the team will compete at the National Western in Denver, Colo., San Antonio\u00a0Livestock Show and Rodeo, Fort Worth Rodeo and Livestock Show and at the Houston Rodeo and\u00a0Livestock Show.
