Second-graders visit Marion Area Museum

FIELD TRIP: Students in Steve Henderson’s second-grade class at Marion Elementary School visited the Marion Area Museum in June shortly before school ended for the summer. Four groups of children visited the museum, barn, cabin and the pond area. The children kept the volunteers busy answering questions and demonstrating various vintage items used by early settlers. The cabin and the pond area were popular with the students as their imaginations took them back to another era during which children amused themselves with a game of jacks, pickup sticks, paper dolls and a variety of homemade toys. The museum volunteers look forward to the annual visit and presenting the past to a new generation of children. Public tours can be arranged by calling (231) 743-2225, (231) 743-6218 or (231) 743-2854. (Courtesy photo)
