OSCEOLA COUNTY — Frequent subzero temperatures can cause water lines to freeze, especially in older homes.

At certain points during the winter season, communities may issue advisories for residents to run a small stream of water from their tap to help prevent pipes from succumbing to the cold.

Evart issued a run water advisory beginning in January, as several pipes within a specific area of the city are prone to freezing each year.

Evart City Manager Zack Szakacs said the advisory will likely be in effect through April, or until frost laws lift.

Reed City does not have an official run water advisory in effect, but is encouraging residents who have had frozen water lines in the past to run water. However, the city is not authorizing any water credit for home owners, said City Clerk Jackie Beam.
