Relay for Life begins Friday

EVART — There is still time for teams to register for this year's Relay for Life.

For an entire 24-hour period, community members will converge at the Osceola County 4-H FFA Farigrounds and raise awareness and funds for those affected by cancer.

The event will begin at noon on Friday, June 19 and last through noon of Saturday, June 20. Relay has provided a way for cancer survivors, caretakers and family members of survivors and of those who have lost their battle to connect, find support and unite under one banner.

Mary Lynn Robertson, the American Cancer Association Representative for the area, welcomes all survivors and their caretakers to join in the event.

In addition to the Survivor Celebration, which begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Relay also will feature a luminary ceremony that evening and a 5K walk/run on the track Saturday morning. The 5K is not a timed event, Robertson added. Throughout the 24-hour period, upbeat music will keep walkers motivated and themed laps will help add some fun for everyone.

The laps will take place every half hour from the event’s beginning and feature entertaining ways teams can enjoy each step. Fun laps include American pride, best prom dress, pajama, glow, pizza and more.

One of the challenges of Relay is to keep attendance rising or steady. This year, 14 teams are already registered.
