Pastor’s Pen: Race to win

I love the Figure 8 Demolition Derby. The roar of engines, the mud flying and the excitement that comes with a high-energy race get my blood pumping. Before each heat, we each choose a car to see who can pick the winner of the heat and the most winners of the night. Through this game, I’ve learned to never bet against a Schooley. When it’s my turn to choose, I always pick Jack or Jim to win. They put their hearts into it and race hard. I can’t turn away while I try to keep up with what place their in.

But even though the Schooleys are excellent racers, they don’t always win. Sometimes things go wrong or there’s a guy with a great car that night. But I still pick them because there are plenty of times they do win – and I like to win.

Who doesn’t want to win? When I play a sport, video game or look for a spot to park at Walmart – I want to win. I want to be the best. I don’t always win, but I always want to.

One certain win is with Christ. Jesus Christ is the ultimate winner. His win was predicted in Genesis 3:15. He has won victory over death (Romans 7:24-25, 1 Corinthians 15:54-57). And, in the end, He will win proving to all that He is King of kings and Lord of lords as He rides down on a white horse to judge and make war (Revelation 19:11-21). He will win that battle with little effort and the beast will be defeated!

I like to win and this will be a glorious one. After centuries of Satan thinking he had won and convincing others to believe there is no God … after a lifetime of sinful temptations … after the battle seemed lost and wondering if the King was right … after wondering if I could go on … the King of kings WILL come back! He WILL reign and He WILL be victorious!! He will show all those in the heavenly realms and on the earth below that there IS only one God and one Christ, one Savior, one Commander, one Lord, and one King! And this same Victorious One says to you now, “Follow me. Join my army. Let’s crush the enemy and win.”
