Pastor’s Pen: One away
“Second place is first loser.”
You’ve probably heard that before.
The announcer at the Figure 8 echoed this statement just before the feature on Saturday. I also read it in my NASCAR magazine last week as a description of Dale Earnhardt’s old school philosophy of racing.
When someone thinks of “second place as first loser” it changes how they compete. It makes them push harder, drive faster and never give-up because they want to be number one. Nothing else will do. Second place may be good enough for some, but it’s still one away from success.
The same is true spiritually. When we choose to follow God, He wants us to follow His Word. We aren’t to compromise, give-up or settle for something less than the best life possible – a life that uses His Word as THE only Guide for life.
Psalm 119 is all about God’s Word. Verse 4 says, “You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.” And verse 9 says, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your Word.”
Are you following God’s Word for all of life or are you using only part and the rest following the world? Just like second place, the word ‘world’ is only one (letter) away from ‘Word’, but its many laps down from being a success.
