Pastor’s Pen: NCAA Distractions
The other day I was tired, but wanted to get some paperwork finished. I got everything out and set up the computer to complete this project. I flipped on the TV. The NCAA Tournament was on. I’m not a huge fan, but enjoy watching a close game ... and boy was this game close!
It was down to the wire. I really got into it with my emotions soaring up and down! I grabbed some chips and drink so I could have some nourishment to get me through all the anticipation of the moment. It was quite an exciting game!
But when the game was over and the chips were gone, there was my paperwork. I had become so distracted by the game that I had completely neglected to do the job I had set out to accomplish in the first place.
Have you ever been distracted? We’ve all been there. But how about in following God? Have you become distracted from doing the will the Father? Take the wisdom of Proverbs 4:20-27 to heart:
“My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; keep your foot from evil.”
Last week we remembered how Christ faithfully obeyed the will of the Father. He did so, not letting anything distract Him from that mission.
Ask God rightnow to show you what distractions are keeping you from following God’s path. Then memorize Proverbs 4:20-27 and faithfully follow its wise instruction.
