Pastor’s Pen: Eager anticipation

Christmas is a time when children look forward in anticipation.

They cannot wait for the day to come when they jump out of bed and find toys under the Christmas tree.

Many children change their actions and attitudes in preparation for that day trying all the more to “be good”, knowing that Christmas is right around the corner.

Whether you are a Christmas nut or prefer to keep it simple in celebrating the Savior, the anticipation of many children is the same anticipation we should live with every day.

The Jews celebrations throughout the year were, and still are, reminders of the greatness of God and how the Messiah is coming.  This continual reminder is to breed excitement for the day He arrives and remind them to live in expectation of that day.

As Christians, we believe the Messiah has already come, but that He also is coming again.  2 Peter 3:11 says this, “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?  You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.”

Like children in December, are you living a “holy and godly life” in anticipation of the second advent of the Lord?
