Pastor’s Pen: Diaper bomb
“Here you go. You can have your son back now.”
That’s my response to the diaper bomb laid down by a one year old. I send him away and when he’s all cleaned up then, and only then, will I take him back. His mother’s response is quite different.
“Come here and let me clean you up.”
His mother calls him to come, even with that stench, so she can clean him up.
The fact is that if an adult doesn’t clean up a smelly baby then he won’t get clean. He’s unable to clean himself. Even as he gets a little older and realizes how smelly he is, there’s still a point where he can’t clean himself up and needs help. If I waited for him to do it then it would never get done.
The same is true with my response to God. My life is a smelly diaper bomb of sin. I can walk around, try to hide it or pretend its not there; but that won’t make it go away. I can try to clean it up myself, but will only end up spreading it all over. Or I can go to God, the only One who can truly forgive and cleanse me of my sin.
1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Go to Jesus and let Him clean you up.
