Pastor’s Pen: A reason to be excited

What gets you excited? What is something that causes you to put all of your effort into a cause or a project or a person?

For the Apostle Paul, I think one of those things was looking at all Christ had done for him. The book of Ephesians is full of blessings that followers of Christ have in Christ. In fact, the words ‘in Christ’, ‘in Him’ or ‘through Him’ appear 35 times in the book of Ephesians! Paul just keeps emphasizing how all of these blessings come, not because we’re so great, but because Christ is so good.

If you only read the first chapter of Ephesians you would see several blessings listed:

1.  We were chosen in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless.

2.  We were predestined through Christ to be adopted as sons.

3.  In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

4.  He showed to us the mystery of His will, which He purposed in Christ.

5.  We are included in Christ.

6.  We are marked in Him with a seal, specifically the Holy Spirit.

Those are just a few of the great blessings we have IN CHRIST. These only come through Christ and through no other means. I cannot be bought back (redeemed) without Christ.  I cannot be adopted into God’s family without Christ. I cannot be guaranteed an inheritance without Christ. It’s all because of Him and though Him that I have these great blessings!

That should excite you and cause you to thank God by your behavior – your actions, your speech and your attitude. If you are a follower of Christ, your entire life should show thanks to God for what He has done for you. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)
