There’s a song written by Chris Tomlin called “Our God.” Part of the lyrics go like this:

“Our God is greater, our God is stronger, God You are higher than any other. Our God is Healer, awesome in power, our God! Our God!”

Those are some pretty bold statements and pretty one-sided. It basically says, “whoever or whatever you serve is nothing compared to the God we serve. He’s the best and no one comes close.”

But what else can you say about God? If you look around at creation and realize that God simply spoke that into existence, who could top that? If you gaze into the sky and recognize that our planet, even our galaxy, is minuscule compared to the universe; yet God knows you personally down to the number of hairs on your head; who could know more than He does? If you read through history and notice how God sets up entire nations and takes them down, who could be more powerful? If you look at your own life and verify the fact that you are not perfect and that you sin each day, yet God Himself made Himself into an insignificant man to die so you may be saved from condemnation; who could be more loving? There is certainly no God that is greater than this God.

Nahum describes God this way, “The LORD is slow to anger but great in power; the LORD will not leave the guilty unpunished ... Who can withstand His indignation? Who can endure His fierce anger? The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him …” (Nahum 1:3,6-7)

Did you see that God is powerful? It is a power that can be used to punish evil or be a refuge for those who trust in Him. Many times we make the mistake of taking the silence of God as weakness, but like a karate expert, He waits until the timing is just right to show His true strength. We must not underestimate His mighty power — to punish and to forgive — to enact judgement and to protect. He is the God that will condemn evil or forgive sin. There is no one more powerful than our God.

Do you realize who it is you serve? If you are truly a Christ-follower, live that way. Do not fear what happens in the world. Do not tremble when evil seems to be winning in your arena. Instead, trust the One who is all-powerful, all-knowing and who is the very definition of love. Trust Him and live your entire life completely for Him. There truly is no one else worthy of such an honor.
