Meceola Blue Star Mothers raise $1,100 for Mid-Michigan Honor Flight

FUNDING FLIGHT: The Meceola Blue Star Mothers recently presented a check for $1,100 to Mid-Michigan Honor Flight for the upcoming flight. Pictured left to right are Diane Diehm of Mid-Michigan Honor Flight, Sandra Howe of Blue Star Mothers, Patricia Donegan of MMHF and Roxie Young of BSM. The Meceola Blue Star Mothers held bake sales and a number of fundraisers in the area to earn this money. The cost for a veteran to fly is $500.  Honor Flight sends World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. at no cost to the veteran. The flight is designed so they can see the WWII monument built in their honor and other landmarks around the Washington, D.C. area. Blue Star Mothers is a military support organization. The group's mission includes supporting troops and veterans, honoring fallen soldiers and supporting each other. The Meceola Blue Star Mothers group is having a membership drive and is seeking military mothers from all branches of service. Meetings are at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of the month the AMVETS on Fourth Street in Big Rapids.
