Leadership class sponsors Taste of Osceola

OSCEOLA COUNTY – The best flavors in the county will be showcased at the Taste of Osceola fundraiser dinner held Tuesday, May 29 at the Osceola 4-H FFA Fairgrounds community building in Evart.

Local restaurants, caterers and storefront vendors will provide diners with a taste of their most popular dishes from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the event sponsored by the 2012 class of the Osceola Leadership Summit.

Samples will be available from Wright’s Bakery, Kaiser Cakes and More, Iron Skillet, Smokey Bones, The Griffins, The Pampered Chef, BC Pizza, Mr. Pibs, Twin Oaks, Evart Sunoco, Pere Marquette Catering, Travelers Bar, Noel’s Cupcakes and Jalapenos. Thirty-five business have been invited and organizers are receiving confirmation from more businesses weekly.

“This is a great time for the entire county to come and sample great food,” said Al Weinberg, Osceola Leadership Summit facilitator. “We have great restaurants and caterers in our county that often times we done know they’re here.”

The Osceola Leadership Summit is a nine-session program held over the course of nine months designed to grow leadership skills in area leaders through developing an awareness of the community’s strengths and needs. The group has traveled to many locations around the county over the past eight months including local schools to learn about education, local health care facilities to experience health services and area businesses to learn about entrepreneurship. The Taste of Osceola will serve as the group’s final session.

“The Osceola Leadership group was very appreciative of all the different business and organizations that hosted us during the nine-month course,” said Sue Snavely, Osceola Leadership Summit participant. “This is a way to give back.”

The event will benefit the Osceola County Commission on Aging Senior meals program as well as a scholarship for the Osceola Leadership Summit.

“The event will be a great networking opportunity and it’s for a great cause,” Weinberg said.

Tickets can be purchased at any Commission on Aging location, the Evart and Reed City Chamber offices or at the door. Tickets are limited and cost $10 for adults, $5 for children age four to 10 and children under four get in free.
