REED CITY — The day of the Tiara Walk for Katie’s Kloset started out bright and sunny. There were more than 50 walkers in bright orange shirts.
The Reed City General Federation of Women Club sponsors the annual walk each June and have many return walkers who share their smiling support.
Through Katie’s Kloset, members of the Reed City General Federation of Women’s Club have been providing clothing and shoes for elementary students in need. During the winter, it also provides coats, boots, snow pants, mittens, gloves and hats. The charity is in memory of Katie Scharlow, who passed away in 2012 after battling cancer.
The theme this year was Super Heroes. Our supporters are all Super Heroes to us! Our walkers and other donations brought in $872.
We had amazing support from our corporate sponsors this year. Thanks to their help, our total profit was $1,836. This will ensure that we can purchase many more coats, shoes, boots and whatever is needed for local school children in the next school year.
We also had several people that ran the challenging 5K. It was not a timed event, but they came in much earlier than the walkers.
Many were delighted to find out they won a door prize or the best costume award. For a small town, we have incredible people that year after year, donate goodies for our prizes. We love Reed City and are fortunate to have access to the depot and our trails and parks.
