Eighth-grader crowned EMS Geography Champion

EVART — Each year thousands of schools in the United States, including Evart Middle School, participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society.

The contest is designed to inspire students to be curious about the world. Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging competition.

The EMS School Bee was held on Feb. 5. Twelve room champions vied for the title of EMS Geography Bee Champion, with the winner earning a medal for their achievement. The overall champion also was given the opportunity to qualify for the state of Michigan event.

In the end, eighth-grader Mark Gable earned the title of EMS Geography Bee Champion 2016. He has taken the qualifying test for the state competition and is anxiously awaiting the results.

Room champions included the following: Logan Hebert, Isaiah Johnson, Sean Panek, Lexie Keathley, Reese Ransom, Aurrora McMillan, Sophia Scott, Mark Gable, Jared Beard, Seth Reister, Blake Daggy and Selena Hyden. EMS salutes the contestants for their fantastic efforts!
