With the end of 2014 coming upon us, we can now look back at all that 2014 has held for us. Some may say it was a great year, while others will complain about everything that had gone wrong in their eyes. I think we all have heard the old saying, “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” meaning that we all need to make a choice of making the best out of every situation. The choice being when given a lemon, do we squeeze it for its flavored juices or do we just continue to gaze at it and wonder why? Now look back over our past year, at the decisions we have made, and the things we may have said, or the thoughts we have allowed to take root in our own minds! Wonder if things would have turned out differently if we had handled things by first taking them to God. God has a way of turning lemons into lemonade, if we will allow Him the opportunity to. The Book of Proverbs is God’s way of giving us His wisdom and knowledge for dealing with life on a daily basis. He has set the Book of Proverbs up with 31 chapters, which on most months is a chapter a day, on shorter months we double up on a couple of chapters. A couple of verses that I have found in Proverbs 3:5-6; “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” NKJV So when we see lemons in our lives do not “lean on your own understanding” but let God direct our paths. We will see blessings come out of all these lemons and find the refreshing God-flavored lemonade. Again in God’s Word Proverbs 15:1-4 “A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness. The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” NKJV We can see that the words we speak can be lemons or lemonade not only to ourselves, but to those around us also! In Jesus’ words He said we will be accountable for all of our spoken words. With the New Year approaching next week, let’s make a decision to take everything to God in prayer, drawing a line in the sand and leaving 2014 behind. Know that by Jesus’ birth into human flesh and that He paid the price for our lemons with His own life and blood, so we are forgiven when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior! Let’s all strive to make 2015 a Blessed and Happy New Year, allowing us to forgive those who may have offended us, as the Lord has forgiven us! Then in turn ask to be forgiven from those to whom we may have given lemons to in our words or actions. Moving forward, let’s bless others with lemonade — love, that is! Happy New Year!
