Pastor David Stiles: What does snow in April tell us?

Maybe weather happens. Maybe the truth is, good thing we have global warming to help us through bad cold weather. Finally, maybe climate change will kill us all in 100 years. Anyone can think anything they want to think.

Do you ever wonder how trained men fail on a regular basis to predict the week's weather, yet we are asked to believe other similarly trained men can predict the weather 50 to 100 years ahead? It does seem to indicate there is wisdom in a cautious approach. Where should we place our trust and faith in these days? How can we avoid the wild-eyed speculation of the well meaning and too often deceivers of our times? Many seem to invoke hysteria on purpose. They question real truth. They propose their own truth. These tactics are not new.

Our adversaries use these deceptions often. A very famous time was in the garden with Eve when Satan said, "Yea, hath God said." (Gen 3:1). He questioned the words of almighty God, the creator of the universe. He is at his old tricks still today. Satan would have us distracted from the truth. Satan would have us trust in our own abilities and talents. Satan would have us take God out of every area of life. Satan has been lying from the beginning. Don't change God's word. The apostle Paul simply stood for the truth.

He said, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Rom.1:16)

What will you do with Christ? Will you seek the truth?

The Bible says, "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple." (Psa. 119:130) Paul told us, "Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (Eph. 6:11)

Wiles means deceit, tricks and methods. Wake up, America! What is Satan after? Satan is after our distraction from the truth of God's word. Satan would destroy the truth if it were possible.

Jesus says, "Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away." (Matt 24:35)

Will you listen to the Son of God?

Jesus says, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me," (John 5:39) Listen to Him. The Bible says, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (Psa. 119:105)

We need the light of truth in these days. Peter said, "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby"(1 Peter 2:2). The word of God can be trusted and relied upon as our source of truth. Paul said, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."(Rom 10:17).

Don't be distracted by snow in April. Don't be consumed by man's thoughts about the here and now while eternity is getting closer day by day. Listen to the word of God. Eternity is ahead. Are you ready to face God? Not if you are still in your sin.

Jesus said, "Ye must be born again."(Jn 3:7). Peter said, "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."(1 Peter 1:23). We must listen to the seed of the word of God. Accept Christ as your Savior today.

We can trust the eternal God who loves us and cares for us. He gave his only begotten Son for us. He is, "Not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance"(1 Pet. 3:9). Life is uncertain. Be prepared for eternity. Put your faith in Christ who died on the cross to save us from our sins. He proved his sacrifice was enough when he rose the third day.

We have a risen Savior. He is not a dead religious leader. The question is not what the weather is going to be tomorrow. The question is not why there is snow in April. The most important question is where will you spend eternity? You can trust Christ today and solve this question today.
