Being a father myself to five children, I realize that “Father’s Day” is not about this one day of the year given to celebrate fathers. We may sometimes fail to consider the love and time spent by both parents raising up their children.

As parents we can soon forget those long hours given, watching the rewards given back to us. However, not everyday has been filled with the comfort of knowing we have made the right decisions. We may compare our own childhood with those of our children, thinking we have done a better job. But have we?

I grew up on a 240 acre farm north of Evart, we raised Angus beef cattle and had one milk cow named Murt. Dad would milk her every evening providing us with fresh milk.

Growing up on a farm was hard work. There were times that it was hard to understand that we were actually being taught work ethics that would benefit us later in life. We all had chores that needed to be completed, with little to no supervision, but failure held consequences. We learned that the family depended on each other to do their part. One lesson learned was that more could be accomplished by working side by side as one family unit.

Dad worked a full time job beside farming and mother’s days were filled with caring for us, planning meals, mending our clothes, and taking care of any medical issues as they would arise. There are many stories that could be told!

I think we can all relate to the fact that we spent more time questioning our parents than we did celebrating them. They actually deserved more than one day a year to be lifted up.

I am so thankful for the family I have, many did not have that privilege. Some children may have been abused and some only had one parent leaving a void in their lives. But all of us have a Heavenly Father that loves us and is always there for us, He never leaves us!  He knew us before we were born. The Book of Psalms 139:13-14 tells us:

“For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.”

As we celebrate ‘Father’s Day’ for our earthly fathers let's also lift our Heavenly Father up who has provided us with so many blessings!

Thank Father, Pastor Ron
