PASTOR'S PEN: Are we thankful?

We need to improve.

Are we working at being more thankful? God has provided a plan for us to deal with the cares of this life.

He says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (Phil. 4:6)

Remember answered prayer? Think of heaven to the God of solutions. You cannot complain and be thankful at the same time. You can't be grumpy and grateful too.

What will being thankful do for us? Thanksgiving increases our faith. Remembering the blessings of God makes us positive people. We have a God who cares. We have hope in Christ.

Paul tells us to pray, "Without ceasing" (1 Thess.5:17).

Be thankful in all circumstances. 1 Thess. 5:18 says, "In everything give thanks."

Yes, for a dirty job, hateful people and bad circumstances, be thankful. Thank God for who he is. His attributes of sovereignty, holiness, perfection, wisdom are a few to start with in your prayer. Be thankful for what he's done in our life. In our prayers and supplications, he has answered us.

During job loss, loss of a loved one, bad health, he has brought us comfort through the Holy Spirit. We can expect future blessings ahead.

We exercise our faith. We it gets really bad and we can't understand, we lift up the shield of faith in Eph. 6:16 for our help. We believe almighty God. We can trust him. Accept his promise.

The Bible says, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine." (Prov. 17:22)

Thank God for his care for us. He will give a peace that passes all understanding, if we just trust him. Does God have a design for our lives or not? The answer is yes.

Remember, stress cannot stay in a thankful heart. Peace overcomes it. When you can't sleep, try counting your blessings. You know, instead of focusing on troubles.

Psa. 103 says, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, forget not all his benefits"(vs 2) "Forgiveth all thine iniquities"(vs.3) Confess your sins to Him right now for cleansing from sin. "Healeth all thy diseases" If you are to be healed, God will do it. "Who redeemeth thy life from destruction" The wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23).

Christ gives hope. "The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Accept His gift today by faith. He will save you. Day by day God is good to us. Be thankful. Thanksgiving instills a desire to be like Jesus. Jesus set the example with a thankful heart. He gave thanks for the revelation of His father's will.

The Bible says, "I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes" (Matthew 11:25).

Are you in God's will? Jesus gave thanks for the provision of food. John 6:11 says, "Jesus took the loaves and when he had given thanks he distributed to the disciples."

Shouldn't we be thankful too? Jesus gave thanks for answered prayer, "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me." (Jn 11:41).

Like Jesus, we should be continually thankful. The Bible says, "He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked."

Trust God today. Practice being thankful now. Put your faith in Christ and be thankful about it.

He loves you. Share His love with others by your thankfulness.

Thankful people bring unity and peace in a church. Join one. We need more thankful people to encourage others. Be an example of a person with a thankful heart.

Trust Christ today. Don't wait. Don't hesitate. He shed his blood for you. He is alive today to save you. Be thankful.
