JIM CREES: You’ve got a friend. Really?!

Iwasn’t going to say anything. I really wasn’t!

It was bad enough, and plenty enough has already been written and said about the Obama administration’s missing out on the biggest demonstration in support of free speech and solidarity in the face of terrorism to hit the world scene in decades.

Following the terrorist murders of satirists and others in Paris, France in what was called a “response” to cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed, millions of French citizens, supported by dozens of the worlds leaders, marched in Paris declaring to the world that the free expression of beliefs and speech would not be extinguished by acts terror and violence.

Then, after years of having U.S. isolationists claim the U.S. is the only free country in the world with free speech, or free anything for that matter, the so-called “Leader of the Free World” was a no show.

Not only did President Obama not show up to march in Paris showing solidarity with freedom loving people from around the globe, but no one from his administration showed up either.

No one?

Pres. Obama didn’t go. Vice President Joe Biden didn’t go. No high level administration official went.

Even Attorney General Eric Holder, WHO WAS IN PARIS, didn’t go.

But ... I wasn’t going to write anything simply because enough has already been said and written.

And then ...

The White House not only back pedaled, but it kept back peddling.

The entire debacle had been basically passed over, but the White House itself is keeping the story alive.

On Tuesday, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough announced it was his fault the president and others in the administration didn’t show up in Paris.

The fault for not having some representative from the freest country on the face of the earth in Paris demonstrating in support of freedom “... rests on me. That’s my job,” McDonough said during an interview on NBC’s “Today.”

So ... Obama can’t say, “Book me a plane to Paris”???

Biden can’t suggest, “We should be there”?

Eric Holder can’t say, “I’m gonna head down the street and join the crowd ...”?

Taking the moral high ground is the whole and sole responsibility of the White House chief of staff ... a guy who, by the way, I’ve never heard of before!

Pres. Obama can order drone strikes on targets around the world, but he can’t set his own calendar when it comes to showing solidarity with millions and millions of people marching in defense of freedom of expression???

And then ... there is an active and considered decision, (and trust me, it was discussed!), to foist off responsibility for a real, Real, REAL crappy decision on a functionary.

I would be a lot more forgiving if the Leader of the Free World had said, “Wow! I screwed up ...”

But, no.

Nobody went to Paris ‘cause the “gate keeper” didn’t mark it on his calendar!!!

Then, to make things horrifyingly worse.

Secretary of State John Kerry showed up in Paris a week late, with James Taylor in tow strumming out a version of “You’ve Got a Friend” to the French people ... who couldn’t give a hoot.

Look, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, don’t get me wrong. I like James Taylor.

I’m a huge fan.

But let’s be honest. Look at me.

I’m a pudgy ol’ hippy with white hair and an imaginary pony tail.

Of course I like James Taylor!

But the best we could do after totally embarrassing ourselves by not having one single moderately well known representative march with the French people following the Charlie Hebdo massacre is trot out a plaintive version of “You’re Got A Friend”?

Oh for Heaven’s sake.

Look, if somebody in Washington needs a few more ideas on how to best embarrass ourselves in front of the entire free world, I can probably whip out a few.I’d rather not do so, and I don’t suppose the team in Washington need any help.

They — both Democrats and Republicans — have turned making this country a laughingstock on the world stage into an art form.
