JIM CREES: It's just depressing
I knew it.
But in all honesty, I’m not prophetic.
You knew it too!
Jeb Bush is officially campaigning for a chance to be THE Republican candidate for President of the United States.
He’s got a lot of competition. Last week, there were more candidates running for the GOP place on the 2016 ballot than there were horses running in the Kentucky Derby.
And then ... Jeb joined the race.
On the other side the Democrats have Hillary Clinton ... and two or three other guys.
(Quick!!! Name one!)
So ... Jeb announces his run saying:
“President Obama has failed us. Hillary Clinton would fail us. We cannot afford another four years of the same failed policies. That’s why I announced today that I’m running for President. That’s why I need your support right now.”
Jeb. I understand you feel Pres. Obama has failed you and your buddies, but if you really want to talk about failed presidencies you might want to cast a little further out - like to your brother!
Now, there was a doozy.
Jeb claims under Obama’s watch “... the economic recovery has been the slowest ever, debt has ballooned, and the American dream has been put out of reach for millions of families.”
And who, pray tell, was at the helm when the need for “economic recovery” was created?
Eight years of a Bush pretty much devastated the U.S economy and dragged this nation into a continuing and continuous war that has become a war of attrition.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen of the jury. It WAS NOT Obama who created the astonishing quagmire in which we are still spinning our wheels in the Middle East. It WAS NOT Obama who caused the situation that brought about the creation of ISIS. It was our being there in the first place. It was our intervention where and when we didn’t belong — for a manufactured reason. Our being in Iraq was the brainchild of Bush-Cheney.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but the U.S. has gained absolutely no advantage following the Bush-Cheney Iraq adventure.
None. Not stability in the region. Certainly just the opposite.
Not an improved economic situation vis-à-vis oil. Even that didn’t work out as planned.
What did happen is we lost thousands of wonderful young people; created an intolerable healthcare crisis among tens of thousands of honored veterans; and lost hundreds of billions of dollars in the mix.
This was not Obama failing us. That was a failing by George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and half of the people who are running Jeb Bush’s campaign for the presidency. And if THAT doesn’t worry you, I don’t know what will.
If anyone — either GOP or Dem — were to take even a cursory look at Jeb’s campaign team, it would cause any clear-thinking person to shudder.
There’s John Hannah, Porter Goss, Michael Hayden, Tom Ridge, Michael Chertoff, Robert Zoellick, Paula Dobriansky, Kristen Silverberg, James Baker, Michael Mukasey, John Negroponte, Otto Reich, and many more.
These folks, serving George Bush, have already failed this nation, and now they are back for round two under Jeb Bush.
Jeb says, “... we will expand opportunity for all, put government on the side of free enterprise and free people, and bring back American exceptionalism and leadership across the globe.”
Really? “American exceptionalism and leadership around the globe”??!!??
The most recent Bush presidency turned this nation into a global laughingstock.
“In this moment, I am focused on all the opportunities our society can extend to every American,” Jeb continued.
Seriously? Under the G. W. Bush presidency the word “opportunity” was taken away from the average American, and turned over to a privileged few. Jeb will simply continue the process.
“I am focused on all the parents who will hand a life better than their own to their children because of what we will do together,” he notes.
Really??? Have you guys looked at what has happened under both Bush and Obama? The economy has improved by leaps and bounds, but the working class??? Not so much.
In fact, not at all.
If you want to talk about “exceptionalism” and handing a better life to our kids, then let’s be exceptionally honest.
The most recent GOP presidency, and a lack of effective action during the Obama administration, has made it virtually impossible for parents to improve their kids’ futures not only for the immediate ‘now,’ but in decades to come.
In fine, the folks in Washington - Republicans and Democrats alike - have done a spectacular job over the past two decades at destroying the economy and basically castrating the working class in this country.
And Jeb will be the guy to fix it?
C’mon, let’s get serious.
Oh, and by the way, will Hillary do any better?
Not on your life.
It was pretty clear months ago that the 2016 ticket would be Jeb against Hillary.
It was depressing then. It is no less depressing today.
