JIM CREES: A GOP representative ID’s the Anti-Christ: It is ... not me!

Republican wins all over the board during mid-term polling last week had some folks absolutely giggly about MY loss. Both writers and callers gleefully pointed out how badly I must be suffering right now.

“The election really hurt you,” said one reader in a rather snarky email.

Um ... no. The election results did not “hurt” me.

Here’s the deal ...

I believe in our system of an elective representational democracy.

Seriously. I believe in this system.

I very seriously believe that the voters AND those who never bother to fulfill their democratic responsibilities and get out to vote all deserve exactly who they elect — whether Democrat or Republican.

When a strong majority votes for one party or the other; one candidate or the other; one ideal or the other, we get what we get.

I suspect I may not be happy with some of the work that will get done over the next couple years in both Lansing and Washington, but I’m also relatively sure that the legislative work will be done by well-meaning people. Just because I disagree with someone politically doesn’t mean they are evil! (Although there are plenty enough folks who think of me as the Spawn of Satan because I hold a different view on life than do they.)

What worries me much more about our system are some of the individual crazies who get elected by the fringe and are slowly but surely dragging the silly and scary conspiracy ideas from the back rooms of marginal politics, to the front of partisan party policy discussions.

Even some “serious” politicians are touting some of the craziest stuff, and folks in the political pews just suck it up.

Recently, presidential hopeful Ted Cruz hinted that implementation of the U.N.’s “Agenda 21” would bring a virtual end to the development of road paving projects in the U.S. AND eliminate golf courses from the face of the earth.

This liberal, tree-hugging, hippie created, earth worshiping “agenda” is supposedly designed by promoters of some “New World Order” to totally eliminate “unsustainable” environments, including golf courses, grazing pastures, and paved roads.

Cruz warns that Agenda 21 will erase American liberty, eliminate property rights, and ultimately chip away at our national sovereignty.

He’s passionate about fighting Agenda 21 — as are his followers and supporters.

Problem is ...

The U.N. program called Agenda 21 is nothing more than a bunch of suggestions for creating “... a more efficient and equitable world economy ...”

It was actually adopted as an outline for action in 1992, and NOT under the Obama administration.

Agenda 21 was passed as a “non-binding resolution.” it was signed into being as a non-binding resolution by 178 nations including the U.S. under the Bush administration.

Cruz certainly isn’t alone in his silly, if not malicious use of Agenda 21 as an election tool. Recently a GOP Senator-elect from Iowa, Joni Ernst, told her followers that as a result of Agenda 21 agreements “ ... agents may start moving people off of their agricultural land and consolidating them into city centers and then telling them that you don’t have property rights anymore. These are all things that the U.N. is behind and it’s bad for the United States, bad for families here in the state of Iowa.”

“They will,” she continued ““take away our individual liberties, our freedoms as United States citizens.”

Um ... er ...

No! Not quite.

I’ll repeat. Slowly. For clarification.

It is a “non-binding resolution.” It is NOT binding on any member nation.

Including the U.S.

Sigh. And then ...

Another GOP luminary, a Ryan Linke, from out in Montana has graciously identified the “Anti-Christ” for the rest of us.

The Anti-Christ is ... drum roll, please ...

Hillary Clinton.

Zinke, who just was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, spoke to a group in Montana saying:

“It’s time to stop the lies. Let’s talk about the truth.

“Who trusts the U.S. government?” he asked rhetorically. “No one in this room. I’ve served in 25 nations. I’ve seen where people don’t trust their government. We’re there ...”

Dude! You just got elected to the House ...in Washington.

You ARE part of the government!

It was then he came out a openly declared Hillary Clinton “the real enemy” and “the Anti-Christ.”

OK. Look. Hillary may be many things.

Liberal? Maybe. (I don’t necessarily think so.)

Democrat? Certainly.

A woman? Yes.

All kinds of things? I don’t know. Maybe.

BUT ... the Anti-Christ????

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. I wasn’t “hurt” by the results of the election.

The system works.

But we ALL can be hurt by some of the loons we have heading to Washington and Lansing.

And THAT’S the truth.
