By Pastor David Stiles Baldwin Baptist Church What a bad feeling it is to be overwhelmed in a time of trouble. Where can we turn for help? There is hope in the help that comes from Christ. He knows it really hurts. “But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.” (Psa.37:39) We must remember that our Saviour notices us at all times. He identifies with our human frailties and weakness. “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.” (Nahum 1:7) He knows us. When we are tired, hungry, angry, drained and at the end of our rope, he still cares about us. He will help us. Some of the troubles we face are of our own making, don’t forget. When we reject God’s plan, don’t be shocked at the chaos and confusion that results. We must ask ourselves why. “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” (Psa.42:11) Where is your hope? How many reasons we have to praise our God for his work in our behalf. Think about that. We find ourselves enslaved to sin when He sent His Son to die on the cross for us. “While we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” (Rom.5:8) The answer is in Christ and His word. Listen to it. Obey it. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31) Run to Him for solace in troubles of all kinds. “My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” (Psa.73:26) We need to focus on the God who has the solutions to life’s troubles. “O love the Lord, all ye his saints for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.” (Psa.31:23) God will get us through. Put your trust in him. “The Lord also will be refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.” (Psa.9:9) Christ is the answer in our time of need. The stress may seem overwhelming to our souls but Christ is there by us. “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.” (Psa.138:7) The Devil will lie and tell us there is no hope or way out. But we know Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life” (Jn 14:6) Christ came to save sinners. Let him do that. Christ is the answer. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” (Psa. 34:19) Whether the suffering is self-induced or not, he is there for us. The suffering may be sourced from the Devil himself. However, the answer is still the same. You need to come to Christ by faith. He will save you by his grace. He loves us. He cares for us. He will help us in time of trouble as he has proven over the years of time. The Psalmist has declared, as we must, “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” (Psa.18:2) Whether our troubles may be one of God’s tests (will we pass them?) or some other purpose, we must trust Christ. Remember what he said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) Where should we go in trouble? Go to the Lord Jesus Christ who loves us and gave himself for us. We must find our peace in Him. Trust him today while you still can.
