By Pastor David Stiles Baldwin Baptist Church Those individuals that reject Christ, and live as if there is no need of God in their lives are to be warned: "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." (Prov. 16:18) No matter the rationalization, you are in danger. Don't let amusement, seeking pleasure or satisfaction of the flesh to take you from the wisdom of God. "Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!" (Isa. 5:21) Be warned\u00a0\u2014 You are going in the wrong direction. Where do you place your hope? We are to hope in God. Why would you reject that resource of help in life? The Bible says, "Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him."(Prov. 26:12) That is a problem. It is difficult to reach a proud person. They may influence everyone around them to leave the safety zone of obeying God. Why would you reject the authority of Almighty God to assume you can live alone? Will you let pride bring your destruction? Don't let it influence your life. The Bible says, "Look on everyone that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place." (Job 40:12) The less you listen to pride, the better you will be. God makes it clear what is acceptable to him. "Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err form thy commandments."(Psa. 119:21) Listen to God while you can. We must obey him. Pride is sin. The Bible says, "An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin." (Prov. 21:4) There is a wage you will earn for your sin. That's not my opinion. It is what God has said in his word: "The wages of sin is death." (Rom. 6:23) There is an answer to the sin problem: "The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." God gives us hope. Pride is a problem, but there is an answer. Remember, faith in Christ is the only solution to our sin problem. Poor choices brings much chaos and confusion in life. The Bible says, "He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat. He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered." (Prov. 28: 25, 26) Where are you walking today? Who are you trusting in now for life direction? What does God think? The Bible says, "And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God." (Lu. 16:15) Are you excusing your sin? Well, that is an abomination in the sight of God. The sense of the word abomination is extreme hatred. Yes, God hates sin. The Bible says, "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate." (Prov. 8:13) You can't justify yourself. Our sin sent His only begotten Son to the cross. Christ came from eternity past to solve our sin problem. He shed his blood to pay our sin debt. Think about that! Remember this act proves God's love for us. Will you respond to his love and receive Christ as your personal Savior? Put your faith in a risen Savior today. Repent, set your pride and sin aside and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. You can be saved today. Put your faith in Christ. Pride will take you to hell. Don't let the Devil lie to you. Trust Christ today. Take care of the problem of pride.
